The Maskeys in Nigeria
February 2019
Dear Fellow Laborers,
Delivered from kidnappers!
Laura was only about five years old when she first visited our church in Port Harcourt, and she and her family have now been attending for over 15 years. She was also saved and baptized at our church, and is a close friend of our daughter, Cayla. Recently, on the morning of December 15th, she was walking to work when suddenly she felt dizzy and had to sit down. The next thing Laura remembers was waking up in a room with about ten other girls on the other side of Nigeria, about 12 hours away. Apparently, her kidnappers had drugged her and taken her to that area, which is known for organ harvesting and selling body parts for “juju” rituals. Because of the drugs, Laura was in and out of consciousness for several days and doesn’t remember much, other than some men coming into the room a few times discussing which organs they wanted from the victims. Meanwhile, her family and all of us here were praying without ceasing for her safe return, not knowing where she was or what happened to her. The next thing Laura remembers was waking up on Christmas morning in a field next to a gas station, surrounded by some people asking her if she was ok. Amazingly, her phone was still with her, and when she finally came to herself, she immediately contacted her family. Soon she was on a bus back to Port Harcourt, safe and sound! It was as if God had sent an angel to deliver her and bring her to that field where somebody would find her. As you can imagine, we were all rejoicing and praising God for her safe return and answered prayers. “The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them”(Psalms 34:7).
More Praises & Prayer Requests…
We are also praising the Lord for a successful 24th Anniversary service at the main church in Port Harcourt on January 27th. We had a record number of 539 visitors and a total of 1,506 in attendance that day. God really blessed in the service as 203 responded to receive Christ as their Savior, and 24 were baptized. We even rented canopies and extra chairs this time to set up outside the church, and they were filled up as well (See pictures on our website: maskeysnigeria.blogspot.com). Pray for these new converts and for us as we try to follow up on all the visitors.
Recently, we’ve been getting some things accomplished on the building projects in Omoku and Yenagoa, and we are grateful for that. Continue to pray with us for God’s help and provision for those new churches and for open doors to start more.
It has been a great blessing for us to partner with you in reaching Nigeria for Christ. Thanks again for your prayers, gifts and faithful support, especially to those who have stood with us for the last 24+ years. We thank God for you!
Yours for His Service,
David, Rose & Justin
